PETER PETERSEN

The artisanal carpenter is based in Duesseldorf and has been doing a lot of work for the Roesterei in Duesseldorf. Over the years the working relationship turned into a friendship and Peter was always interested in what we were doing in Malawi. The topic water for him as a person is of course very important and he believes, that water is a human right an everyone should have access to clean and safe drinking water. For is carpentry business howeve rit was difficult to build a bridge to the topic to be able to tell a story. Once we started our projects around Ntchisi Forest Reserve (which also holds the water sources of the region) he got involved. In the first year he supported us the planting of 1000 (500 EUR) indigenous trees in the Forest Reserve. In the second year 1500 (750 EUR) trees and this year with 3000 trees (1500 EUR). These trees give back to the land and people, as they provide jobs and secure the micro climate of the area, but they are also replenishing wood. The resource Peter Petersen is working with every day. This year he came to visit the projects in Malawi and also met with our carpenter and worked alongside him sharing his passion and knowledge on the edge of the Forest Reserve.

BUNZL

The international packaging producer has supported Kumanga from Day 1. Through the personal contact to Martin and year long working relationship Hans Georg Wiskus, the CEO of BUNZL Germany, started to support the projects of Kumanga e.V. every year to Christmas. Starting with a borehole and continuingly building on the further development of the community BUNZL has supported the people of Malawi through school projects, alternative sources of firewood and income generating crops like Bamboos and Macadamia. And even supporting the protection of the Forest from fires and setting up Honey farms in the reserve to increase the diversity of income coming from the forest and protecting the basic needs and water of the area. Max Wiskus, the son from Hans Georg spend 3 month in Malawi during his internship and als Hans Georg came to Malawi to see the projects and positive developments that his company has on a daily basis through the tailor made projects from Kumanga eV bringing together the needs of the community and the possibilities of the supporting company.

RVTC

The coffee roastery in Duesseldorf has been the foundation of Kumanga eV. From its own CSR Kumanga eV was created to open up the support from other companies and private people for the same course. Over time the engagement from RVTC has adapted to a changing reality in Germany and in Malawi. Starting in 2013 with the first borehole in Mchinji area, the whole region now has access to clean and safe drinking water. Now RVTC is supporting the up keeping and education in the area about water usage, farming and health. But the projects only started with boreholes in the meantime the project work from Kumanga developed alongside the engagement from RVTC in Malawi. With its commitment in Ntchis area new projects came a long as the communities there face different challenges. RVTCs and Kumangas approach has always been to support the ideas that are already there and work together to make them become reality. In Ntchisi its been about water piping projects and the protection of the forestreserved. Against illegal deforestation and fires. Against charcoal bruners from the outside and for the people that are living around it. A lot of damage got restored over the last 5 years through a diversity of reforestation projects, but als furth community development took place in terms of supporting families in paying school fees for secondary school learners and the support for the local nursery school. And until today RVTC is supporting long lasting change along side the community with the help of Kumanga eV.

AFEW

The Duesseldorf Sneaker Shop and sustainable Fashion Brand, have crossed our way through the common passion for sustainable solutions and community based approaches. In Duesseldorf, but around the globe. Applying clever marketing strategies to speak to a conscious consumer. Through the Kumanga water bottle people had a refill point in the city in their shop and instead of paying a private company they donate the money they would usually spend on water to us. With a growing portfolio of projects we have then also colaborated in connecting sports around the globe. Afew donated the money for the local football club of Mpamilla FC to level their ground and have a fresh set of jerseys for everyone in the team, supporting the sport, supporting the community and telling the story around the globe. Sneakers and sport build community. Everywhere in the world. The newest CSR project is the planting of 10 trees for every bag that a customer does NOT take. Positive encouragement of sustainable buying behaviour.
